The 10th edition of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally ended in climax this Friday morning in the dunes of south- east Morocco. The spectacular group start was followed by crowds of local spectators. Adrien Van Beveren (Yamaha, motorbikes), Axel Dutrie (Yamaha, quads) and Nasser Al-Attiyah (Can-Am, side-by- sides) kept their cool and each won their category. Looking back at a morning to celebrate!

Magical moments in the heart of the desert. Participants in the 10th edition of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally spent the evening together but without their support crews as part of the famous marathon stage. After a fresh and industrious night, it was time to get back on the road for the penultimate stage, a gruelling 205.27 km trek to the bivouac at Hotel Xaluca.

A night under the stars and in the heart of the desert. This Wednesday, at the conclusion of 229kms of special stage, the competitors made their way to a bivouac in the middle of the tracks after the first portion of the marathon stage (with no assistance). The day was particularly eventful between the sandy and rocky tracks. One of the favourites in the bike class, Michael Metge, was forced to retire. Adrien Van Beveren went on for the win, as did Al-Attiyah (Side by Side) and Axel Dutrie (quad).

The competitors continue to move up the learning curve on the tracks of south-eastern Morocco. Stage 2 saw the field tackle a 212 km special as part of the 307.2 km course. Michael Metge (motorbikes), Axel Dutrie (quads) and Nasser Al-Attiyah (side-by-sides) took the spoils. It was a perfect stage for the competitors to hone their skills and inch closer to their dream of racing the Dakar.

The 10th edition of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally is under way! 127 competitors, including four female bikers who fervently hope to take part in the next Dakar, tackled a drawn-out 208 km long loop around Xaluca on Monday. Adrien Van Beveren (Yamaha) dominated the motorbike stage, with Axel Dutrie (Yamaha) winning the quad race and Nasser Al-Attiyah victorious in the Side by Side category.
Afriquia Merzouga Rally: ready to jump into the deep end?

With one week remaining before the start of edition 10 of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally, the event was presented at a press conference in Casablanca, Morocco. This provided an opportunity to arouse envy among the competitors, before setting off on a very discerning race in the heart of the dunes of Merzouga.

The competitors are raring to go! The 10th edition of the Afriquia Merzouga Rally will start with a 208 km special on Monday 1 April and last until Friday. A total of 107 participants are ready to hone their rally raid skills in a kaleidoscope of landscapes in south-eastern Morocco, including dunes and stony sections. Now more than ever, the pivotal event continues to live up to its reputation as the “Dakar Academy”.
